Corsham Town Council - Organisation

Corsham Town Council is made up of  20 Councillors, of whom one is a District Councillor and one is a County Councillor.

The Council has four standing committees. The Finance and General Purposes Committee manages the overall finances, deals with policy matters and is responsible for the Christmas Lights and Corsham in Bloom. The Leisure Committee is responsible for recreation grounds, children's play areas and allotments. The Amenities Committee is responsible for the maintenance of the Town Hall, Arnold House, Ladbrook Lane Cemetery, certain footpaths as well as Beechfield Nature Area.

The Council (Planning) Committee considers all planning applications pertaining to its area but can only make recommendations to the District Council, which is the planning authority.

The Council also acts as Trustee for the Town Hall, which is a registered charity. Full Council meetings are held monthly. Planning meetings are held every three weeks and the remaining committees meet every two months. All Town Council meetings are open to the public, details/agenda are displayed in the Town Hall and the Library.

The Annual Town Meeting normally takes place in April.  This is the opportunity to hear reports on the work of the Council during the past year, ask questions, make comments, meet the councillors and put forward constructive suggestions for consideration.

From its formation in 1895 until May 2000 Corsham Council was a Parish Council. The decision to become a Town Council was finally made to reflect its size and status, we have a Town Hall, a Town Football Team and now a Town Council
