Finance and General Purposes Committee

The Town Council is at the sharp end of Local Government, often the first to become aware of local issues and priorities, but with very limited resources with which to operate. Typically your contribution to our funds is based on a very small proportion of the local Council Tax (£80.42 per year for a Band D Household for 2008/09)

It is important that these funds are allocated and spent wisely. This is the job of the Finance and General Purposes Committee (F&GP). In the first instance we recommend the Annual Budget to the Town Council for its approval, based in large part on the previous year’s expenditure and the ambition of the Council to improve Corsham, the services that are available and the environment in which we live and work.

The F&GP supervise the spending of the Annual Budget, whether it is maintaining the best possible staff in the Town Hall, and they are very good in Corsham; the Groundsmen and Cleaner who do such a good job in and around the Town; the maintenance of Council facilities and the management of Council run services such as allotments.

Our aim is to achieve as much as we can that is of direct benefit to all the people of Corsham, without placing an onerous burden on you, the Taxpayer. Corsham Town Council will continue to come under pressure from the Principal Local Authorities to take on services locally. The Finance and General Purposes Committee will continue to ensure that any service provision is affordable, and that it meets the needs of the people of Corsham, young and old alike.
