Corsham Youth Council
The Corsham Youth Council was started in October 2008. Since this time the Youth Council has held meetings every month. A survey and some planting for Corsham in Bloom has also taken place. A total of 22 youth councillors joined the council from schools in Corsham. The logo above was designed by a Heywood Preparatory School student. The Youth Council has recentlychanged Chairperson to give as many people as possible the opportunity to experience the role. The current Chairman is from The Corsham School.. The photo below shows some of the Youth Councillors who took part in planting their logo garden at Springfield for the Corsham in Bloom competition.

- 1200 Surveys were distributed, 30%, 424 were returned.

- 258 people visited Corsham daily, 92 most days, 25 weekly, 13 fortnightly, 5 monthly and 23 rarely.
- 11 people rate public transport in Corsham as excellent, 89 as good, 104 as average, 32 as poor, 22 as very poor and 157 don’t use it.
- 12 people rate cycling facilities in Corsham as excellent, 53 as good, 74 as average, 60 as poor, 36 as very poor and 182 don’t use it.
- 25 people rate pedestrian facilities in Corsham as excellent, 198 as good, 133 as average, 37 as poor and 14 as very poor.
- 241 people thought that the parking in Corsham should be free, 60 people would pay 10p per hour, 53 would pay 20p per hour, 36 would pay 30p per hour and 18 would pay another amount.
- 359 people thought that it would be a benefit to the town to re open the train station, 34 did not think it would benefit the town.
- 361 people would like a cinema in Corsham whilst 36 would not.
- 123 people rated the schools in Corsham as excellent, 177 rated them as good, 101 rated them as average and 20 rated them as poor.
- 21 people rated the play areas in Corsham as excellent, 88 rated them as good, 112 rated them as average, 56 rated them as poor, 24 rated them as very poor and 120 people don’t use them.
- 365 people thought that there should be a public transport youth pass, 34 people thought there should not.
- 163 people do not regularly visit play areas whilst 6 visit Westwells, 8 Meriton Rec, 14 Rudloe, 15 Dicketts Avenue, 93 Springfield, 37 Neston Rec, 3 Coppershell, 78 Springfield Skate Park and 74 Springfield BMX Park.
- 403 people would like a Springfield Leisure Centre student discount card whilst 37 would not.
- 246 people would pay between £1 - £2 to use the leisure centre, 125 people would pay between £2 - £3, 34 would pay between £3 - £4 and 8 would pay £4 - £5
- The best things about Corsham are: It’s safe, Chinese Take Away, Parks, Springfield, Automattic Commics, Peacocks, Katherine Park fields & walking routes, Post Office, small size, Pound Pill Arts Centre, Mansion House Youth Club, Shops, Historic Buildings, Friendly People, Low Crime Rate, Corsham Court, can walk everywhere, Friends, Paths, Cricket Pitch, Lake, Schools, Skate Park, Countryside, Library, Football Club.
- The worst things about Corsham are: Traffic, Vandalism, No shops for young people, Police, It’s boring, Lack of Café for young people, Toy Shop, Too many hairdressers, Gangs of young people hanging about, Empty Shops, Play areas for 8-13 year olds, Parking, Uneven paths, Litter, No rail link, No Cable TV, Dog poo on pavements, Boy racers, Lack of cycle routes, noise, Lack of safe crossing places, Potley housing estate, Graffiti, Somerfield, Alleyways, Expensive busses.
- The things that people thought would improve Corsham are: crazy golf, yellow lines by cricket club, less vandalism, youth café, athletics track, youth shops, night club, arcade, youth clothes shop, cinema, more cycle lanes, ice skating ring, pet shop, exciting swimming pool, big pay park, indoor football pitch, better public toilets, play park in Katherine Park, bins in Katherine Park, zebra crossing at Station Road, re build Martingate Centre, bowling.
- People would like to see a Cinema, game shop, youth café, young person’s clothes shop, sports shop, play centre, shoe shop, arts and crafts shop, DVD rental shop, McDonalds, Sub-Way, New Look, Primark, music shop, Waitrose, a gym, RSPCA or a rugby shop in the empty Martingate Centre unit.
- 294 people said they feel safe in Corsham whilst just 67 said they did not.
- 99 people did not know Corsham had its own CCTV system, 175 thought it was a good idea whilst 58 thought it was not so good.
