It is the focal point of the annual Remembrance Day Parade held in November.

In 2008 three local stonemasons, (Neil Gray, Rob Fleming from Masonry & Conservation Ltd and John Harrod from JKH Masonry Cleaning) donated their services free of charge to refurbish the Memorial. These craftsmen have ensured this memorial constructed of local stone, remains a unique and fitting monument to those who fought for the country.

In 2010, with funding from the Town Council, local artist Celia James painstakingly and expertly repainted the names on the memorial.

In 2014, to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, two commemorative benches were installed in the War Memorial garden area.
