• Wiltshire Council has been successful in its bid for Green Homes Grant of £546,5000 to target work to improve 100 of the Council’s least energy efficient homes as part of its Housing Energy Efficiency programme. This aims to bring the energy rating of all council houses in Wiltshire up to EPC B standard over the next 10 year. The council’s Housing Energy Efficiency Programme will retrofit 5,000 council homes by 2030, with assessment carried out on the first 800. The aim is to reduce the amount of CO2 by 15,000 tonnes. More information can be found at: Wiltshire Council receives Green Homes Grant to progress its Housing Energy Efficiency Programme
  • Wiltshire Council’s Stone Circle Development Company is creating market led housing that has a very low carbon impact. Three schemes have been submitted for planning consent to deliver homes with air source heat pumps instead of gas boilers, delivering a total of 72 units.
  • A scheme to refurbish Melksham House, a listed building, which includes two double electric vehicle charging points (four parking bays) has received planning consent. The Melksham House scheme will be all electric and include photovoltaics at ground level, air source heat pumps and LED lighting throughout. There will be no gas supply.
  • Wiltshire Council have retrofitted 57 council homes to improve their energy efficiency rating, with measures such as intelligent hot water cylinders, solar panels and high heat retaining storage heaters.
  • Wiltshire council’s Property Carbon Reduction Programme has so far delivered 15 completed projects with 17 more currently awarded and underway. These range from LED lighting upgrades to PV solar panel installations to the removal of oil fuelled heating and other carbon saving works. This represents a total capital commitment of £1.3m and is so far estimated to save 593 tonnes of CO2 per year from the council’s carbon footprint.
  • Warm and Safe Wiltshire (WSW) is the Council’s energy advice service and works in partnership with Swindon Borough Council and the Centre for Sustainable Energy. This service has been extended to March 2023.
  • The council has also tendered a three-year contract to find a Modern Method of Construction (MMC). MMC is a process which focuses on off-site construction techniques, such as mass production and factory assembly, as alternatives to traditional building. This project will deliver 1,000 new affordable zero carbon homes.
  • In November 2021, the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Authority Delivery (LAD) scheme had 34 installations with 320 further applications being processed, 47 of which had agreed to installations. The target number for Swindon & Wiltshire is 391 homes receiving measures. So far installed measures include solar photovoltaics, loft insulation, heating controls, and ventilation.
  • Wiltshire Council has successfully secured funding of more than £3.6m from the Government which will increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint of up to 210 Wiltshire homes.
  • As of May 2023, 90 council homes have been retrofitted to be more energy efficient in Wiltshire.

  • Corsham Town Council has a Neighbourhood Plan which allows the Town Council the opportunity to have a greater say in where they think new homes, employment land and infrastructure should be built in Corsham. The plan includes policies that ensures planning proposals must ‘take into account the Corsham Design Guide and Corsham Batscape Strategy’, ‘protect and, where possible, enrich the habitat of the protected bat species associated with the Bath and Bradford on Avon Bats Special Area of Conservation (SAC)’, ‘to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development’, ‘seek to achieve low carbon design’,  ‘not result in a loss of green infrastructure’ and ‘new developments are not built on the identified Rural Green Buffer.’ This is reviewed and updated periodically to reflect environmental planning policy. Link to current Neighbourhood Plan
  • Corsham Town Council is using its community reach to promote schemes, grants and funding available to residents to improve the energy efficiency of their homes through retrofitting.
  • Corsham Town Council held an Energy Saving Event in partnership with Corsham Climate Action on Saturday 22nd October 2022, at the Town Hall. The event provided residents and businesses with information on how to reduce energy bills by becoming more energy efficient. There were stalls, demos and advice about how to use less energy, improve energy efficiency in homes and businesses, save money with renewable energy and more. Exhibitors included Warm and Safe Wiltshire, Centre for Sustainable Energy, Bath and West Community Energy and architects and suppliers specialising in energy efficiency appliances and upgrades to homes.
  • Box PC will ensure that all appropriate Parish assets are supported by an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) that describes the energy efficiency of each council property.
  • The EPC document will include estimated energy costs and a summary of the building’s energy performance-related features,
  • recommendations on measures that would make the building more energy-efficient, along with estimated costs for implementing the changes and any potential savings.
  • Neighbourhood Plan Review Box PC will advocate that all new builds should gain a minimum EPC rating of C link to Neighbourhood Plan (not yet published)
  • All new home construction should include electric vehicle (EV) charging installations.
  • New office buildings will need to provide charging infrastructure per every 5 parking spaces.
