The Environment Task Group was established in spring 2019 to reduce the carbon footprint of our community in support of Government and Wiltshire Council targets and commitments to reducing carbon emissions.The purpose of the Task Group is to influence, facilitate, communicate and carry out a wide range of projects that will result in a lower carbon footprint for Corsham parish area.
The Task Group comprises of representatives from Corsham Town Council, Transcoco, Corsham Youth Council, and individuals and retailers from the local community with specific skills and knowledge. Bath Spa University, Corsham Chamber of Commerce, Corsham Churches Group, the local Schools Cluster, The Corsham School and MOD Corsham are all represented. Anybody can apply to join the Task Group – please request this through the Town Hall (firstname.lastname@example.org or 01249 702130) or speak to a Task Group member. The Group reports back periodically to the Town Council on progress, issues arising and outcomes.
The Task Group Launch Event was held on 14 November 2019 and attracted over 80 people. The Event generated a great deal of interest and the range of expert speakers proved popular. Copies of the slides from the event can be found here.
The Task Group has identified around forty potential carbon reduction projects. Some of these are will be carried out by the Town Council, for example, changing all of our electricity supplies to 100% renewable sources from April 2020. Other projects will be carried out in partnership, and some will be addressed by third party organisations and individuals.
